Our first major Alpha update is live
Mimic Mayhem has received its first major update following our public Alpha launch.
The first Alpha brought more than 11,000 visits to the game and gave us a much better look at what players enjoyed, what was confusing, and what needed more work.
Since then, we’ve been focused on making the game easier to understand, more reliable, and more polished.
New player tutorials
One of the biggest things we learned from Alpha was that Mimic Mayhem can be a lot to take in when you first join.
New players now receive a guided introduction to the game that helps explain important systems before jumping into rounds.
We’ve also added role-specific guidance for Mimics and Seekers so players have a better idea of what they should be doing when they play each side for the first time.
This is only the beginning of our onboarding improvements, but it should make the first few rounds much easier to understand.
Improved voting
Map and gamemode voting have received a presentation pass.
Voting now includes new animations and sounds to make selections feel more responsive, along with cleaner vote counts that are easier to read.
The Seeker selection sequence has also received additional sound and presentation work.
Infection improvements
Infection mode received an important update to how eliminated Mimics return to the round.
When a Mimic is eliminated, they now properly transition into a Seeker, respawn with their Seeker equipment and abilities, and receive a short respawn screen before returning to the match.
This fixes several issues that could previously leave converted players without the tools they needed to continue playing.
More polish across the game
This update also includes a number of smaller fixes and improvements throughout Mimic Mayhem.
We’ve continued working on round flow, UI presentation, animations, sounds, gameplay feedback, and general reliability.
A lot of these changes are small individually, but together they make the game feel much more complete.
What’s next
There is still plenty we want to improve.
Some of our biggest priorities moving forward include:
- Continuing to improve new player onboarding
- Making Seeker gameplay easier to learn and more satisfying
- Improving mobile aiming and shooting
- Strengthening round and queue reliability
- Expanding the lobby with more things to do
- Continuing balance changes across abilities and gamemodes
- Adding more maps, content, and progression
Alpha is still exactly that: Alpha.
Mimic Mayhem is going to keep changing as we test new ideas, listen to feedback, and figure out what makes the game the most fun.
Thank you to everyone who has played, reported bugs, joined the BlueRain community, or given us feedback so far.
We’re just getting started.
